Advanced Software Solution for the European Gas Market Developed for a Dutch Company

Challenge

Many environmentalists consider natural gas as an organic bridge fuel between the dominant fossil and renewable fuels. The accessibility of natural gas raises the opportunity for using it as a critical transition fuel. This could be a possibility to tackle the issue of global warming. However, the gas industry forestays conservative. Thus, the process of digital transformation in this field is very slow. For years a lot of gas trading and transport deals were executed by fax or phone. With the help of new standards such as EFET standards, it has become possible to change certain aspects of the wholesale energy transactions.

Requirements to the platform included:

  • An ‘easy to use’ solution, addressing the goals and necessities of its clients
  • A complex program focusing on business analytical skills that had to be built from scratch. A deep analysis of the gas business was needed to create a permanent product solution for portfolio manager, traders and gas operations
  • The software development manages a large amount of data from several sources, and by using the already tried and tested formulas, it calculates the best possible decision to implement

Approach

When beginning this project we concentrated our efforts initially on the launcher’s multi-page UI. This allowed us quick access for creating different profiles and managing applications. Then we created a special browser that allowed children to open educational apps in “safe mode” to prevent kids from having to go online to access the program. We also created an app to configure the device during the first launch called Setup. It helped to adjust screen resolution, profile creation, and customization of Android for desktop. All the information and data about the children’s user accounts and applications are stored in the cloud.

Result

The program written for our client consists of several microenvironments for system users. Within each interaction, the environments included several applications and communication through the API in order to fulfill the team unit and complete compatibility testing and defect validation early on. We also allowed end users to download some data, which makes it extremely fast to implement the environment. The features includes:

  • The whole model was built using three primary environments: The client environment (such as the credit matrix, corresponding trading counterparts, and credit lines) with two applications, the front office and server and the Client environment
  • To maintain system quality and fulfill project requirements, our quality assurance specialists tested the software in all its stages: pre-development, during development and post-development. Even now, we keep in touch with our client to secure the quality and minimize the number of mistakes
